Session Schedule and Descriptions
Sessions schedule and descriptions for the 2010 Strengthening Student Success Conference.
In addition to informative briefings presentations and interactive breakouts presented by California community college practitioners, we’ve built Problem Solving Communities - dedicated spaces where you can gather with others to discuss key issues, engage in a case study, and brainstorm ways to implement ideas that you gather at the conference. Here’s how it works:
1) We've identified ten cross-cutting issues, distinct from the conference strands as the foundation for our communities. When you register for the conference, you can select the topic of greatest interest to you and identify key issues or questions that you'd like to address. The topics are listed below, with detailed information included in the Session Description document:
• Becoming a Leader for Change
• Blending CTE, GE and Basic Skills
• Building Cultures of Inquiry
• Changing Instructional Practices & Structures
• Closing the Equity Gap
• Integrating Student Services & Instruction
• Linking Program Review, Accreditation, and Assessment
• Making Sense of Data
• Meeting Goals for Increased Transfer Rates
• Strengthening Student Engagement
2) After the opening session on the first day of the conference, you will meet with your problem solving community for the first time. A facilitator will guide conversation and information sharing about this issue, including what is happening at your institution, trends that are emerging in the state, and key questions.
3) On the afternoon of the second day of the conference, you'll rejoin your community or pick a new topic and dive into a case study that will help engage the group in a deeper analysis of the issue area and concrete actions steps that you can take.
