Dear RP Community,
If you used the RP Group website to access the RP Group directory between 6/20/08 and 7/7/08 then you may have unknowingly been exposed to malicious software or “malware”. The RP Group directory was hacked by a process known as SQL Injection which can cause your browser to download malicious programs without your knowledge or consent. Only the RP Group directory (this page) was affected. If you only accessed other pages on the website, you are not at risk.
If you run Windows and subscribe to Microsoft’s automatic updates, then you already have up-to-date protection against malware. You can read about and download Microsoft’s anti-malware tools here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
You can also run the following tool from Internet Explorer. You need to allow the pop-up windows and give permission for the browser to download and install the scanning software plug-in. It usually takes about an hour and a half to scan your entire computer for malware: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/center/howsafe.htm?s_cid=mscom_msrt
If you would prefer to use a non-Microsoft scanner, you can access one here: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/ (this program must be run from Internet Explorer)
Webroot’s Spysweeper is also available as a free download (supports detection only) from: http://www.webroot.com/En_US/consumer-products-spysweeper.html
The directory is currently off-line as we upgrade the service to a more secure format. Thank you for attention to this issue.
Finally, as RP Group webmaster I would like to extend my deepest apologies for any inconvenience or trouble that may have occurred due to this unfortunate event.
Craig Hayward, Ph.D.
