2001-02 California Community College Student Success Analysis
A 2001-2002 analysis of student success by demography and by levels below transfer English and Math.
As one of several projects established when the RP Group's Center for Student Success was first initiated, an MIS team was formed to evaluate student success data for 2001-2002 for CSS participating colleges. Overall data was provided to the team by the MIS Department of the Chancellor's Office for California Community Colleges. The team first provided an analysis of student success by demography and clustered the data of participating colleges by size. Extensive clean-up of data from colleges was needed to provide meaningful analysis. An external coding scheme numbering courses for their levels below transfer English and math were developed to provide consistent comparisons between participating colleges. During year two, the MIS Team added success data for the various levels below transfer English and Math to the overall success data gathered during the project's first year. Benchmark data by college size was generated to provide colleges with a meaningful level of comparison. The data provide the foundation for discussion about ways to ensure the successful transition of basic skills students into their academic programs of study.
