SB 946 – What Do We Know About the Early Assessment Scores and Student Success in College?
This session is designed for the community college matriculation coordinators, researchers, and administrators who are either involved or are considering participation in the Community College Early Assessment Pilot Program, as described in SB 946. The presentation provides a survey of research on the relationship between the EAP scores and high school‐to‐college transition in English and math and explores answers to the following questions: Which students take the EAP test? How many EAP participants choose to enroll in community college? Is there evidence that students scoring “ready for college – conditional”, which require additional courses in math during 12th grade, actually follow the advice? How successful are students who score “ready for college?” At the end of the presentation participants will be able to better understand the Early Assessment Program, relationships between EAP scores and student success in college, and gain awareness of the resources available through Cal‐PASS that are potentially
useful for taking a full advantage of the current extension of EAP program to the community colleges.
