Ginger Mankins

San Diego State University

Ginger Mankins is an adult learner who began her college journey while incarcerated at a reentry program where Mesa College offers outreach. She graduated from Mesa in spring 2024 and transferred to San Diego State University (SDSU), where she is now a senior majoring in health communication with a minor in social work. At Mesa, she volunteered with Associated Students and later joined EOPS/Rising Scholars, where she now works as the Rising Scholars Project Assistant. Ginger has also been part of SDSU’s Project Rebound as a Fellow of the Dr. Labio Leadership Fellowship and serves on a committee with the Women’s Resource Center to help plan the 2026 Take Back the Week events. She also gives her time to Garden 31, a nonprofit that supports at-risk youth and people returning from incarceration. After 30 years in the agricultural industry and raising three children, Ginger says her greatest joy comes from seeing others succeed in ways they once thought were impossible.
