Husna Ayoubi

San Diego Mesa College

Husna Ayoubi emigrated from Afghanistan in August 2021. During her stay in a refugee camp, Husna used her English skills to work at the camp clinic as a volunteer translator. After settling in San Diego, she started working at Montgomery Middle School as an English language development assistant, mainly to assist newcomer refugee students. In  fall 2022, Husna resumed her studies at San Diego Mesa College, preparing to transfer for Cognitive Science. She did ethnographic research with her students for her corequisite English class, and her work was featured in an online student showcase. Husna completed the Medical Assistant program in summer 2023 and is currently a Mesa Academic Senate senator and a member of the campus Environmental Stewardship and International Education Committees. Additionally, she serves her community through the Afghan Empowerment Counseling Program, which aims to provide Afghan high school students the support to navigate and succeed in higher education.
