Robert Young

University of California, Los Angeles

Robert Young is attending UCLA as a transfer student, majoring in art history with a possible minor in either business administration or African American studies. During his time in community college, he founded the first art magazine at Santa Monica College and served as its editor-in-chief, hosted a solo exhibition of his photography collection at San Diego Mesa College, and contributed to building the Black Leadership Fellows initiative and Umoja. Robert is passionate about focusing on African American internal values that align with love and consciousness of self, merging his knowledge in art history to enlighten the next generation about self-knowledge. His goal is to obtain a bachelor’s and pursue a master’s degree, eventually working within the California Community Colleges system as an art history professor or college counselor, helping underprivileged inner-city kids become more than just another statistic. Outside of school, Robert’s hobbies consist of making paintings, photography, listening to music, and spending time with loved ones.
